I would certainly agree with Ed's "Nice Guy" descrption. We played together on the Highlands basketball team during the 59-60 season winning the league championship. I am glad to still have this memory !
I grew up with Eddie. From kindergarten, thru grade school in the then-rural Highlands, where Eddie excelled in every sport we were offered, to LT and even, briefly, at NIU. He came from a wonderful family, always welcoming and generous. He reflected the solid values of his people. He had an everyready smile and never a harsh word. He was competitive, forgiving, laughed easily and often. Others have said it better, but Eddie Connelly was a wonderful person, in every respect. May God rest his soul.
I Got to know Ed after LT, probably first year of college. I had had a gathering at Christmas vacation and my roommate from Peoria was visiting. She and Ed met and maintained a friendship for some months. Because of that friendship, he and I began dating. Ed was funny, smart and gracious. We had a good time together and I have fond memories of that time. He was one of a kind. when I got the news, I called her and we reminisced and laughed about that time and our memories of Ed. We are sorry to hear of his passing; he was a good man.
Ed was a nice guy and very self effacing. It's sad to see so many names of past friends. Jack Butcher, Bill Moore and others. I noticed that Bill died in 2013. Did anyone keep in touch with him? He was very funny and very talented and loved to sing. His father's untimely death had a big effect on him

Sad to see this notice. Ed was a good team mate and good basketball player. I haven't known many people that fit the super nice guy category than Ed.

My good friend is a cousin of Ed's wife. She told me that Ed died of cancer late last summer 2019. He had no obituary. ---Nancy Bitzer Sturgeon
